Stoke City manager Mark Hughes still doesn’t appear too happy about the claims from Garry Monk that Victor Moses cheated to win a penalty in the game at the Britannia Stadium earlier in the season.

Garry Monk was rather frustrated after the 2-1 defeat, as Moses won a penalty to cancel out Bony’s opener – also a penalty, before Walters scored a 76th minute winner.

Former Manchester United player and Welsh international/manager Mark Hughes is still going on about the whole incident in the pre-match press conference of Saturday’s match at the Liberty Stadium.

Both managers stand by their original claims, which couldn’t be more opposite if they tried. Monk didn’t apologise later on for his claims that Moses cheated to win the penalty – something that has clearly annoyed Hughes.

Hughes, talking of a possible apology as they meet again, says it’s water under the bridge, but it’s still something he’s not happy with.

‘We are not asking for anything in those terms,’

‘It’s water under the bridge. The moment for that has probably passed.’

‘I said my piece at the time. The adjectives used (by Monk) were misplaced maybe, but I think we’ve moved on.

‘It’s difficult after games, immediately after, and you can say things sometimes you are going to regret. But further on in the week they stuck by what they said.

‘My take at the time was that Victor was impeded and that was borne out by the images of the shirt being pulled and that’s why the penalty was given.

‘There was contact, there was a shirt pull. I think I said at the time Victor probably went down quite easily and you understand why there’s a debate.

‘But there was a foul and there’s no doubt about whether Victor was impeded and that was the interpretation of the officials on the day.’

You can watch the entire highlights of that 2-1 defeat below, and you can make your own mind up about the penalty decision (from about 52 seconds in) and watch the incident at real time. Moses cuts in from the left, and falls to the floor from what looks like minimal contact from Rangel at the most – certainly not enough to send a player like Moses to the ground.

The incident may add extra spice to the game, but it certainly won’t be your typical end of season 0-0 bore draw. There’s 8th place and an extra £1.25m to fight for and Monk is looking for the fans to make it feel like a title-decider type of atmosphere, as he urges them to get behind the team.
