Barnes: Penalty Was The Right Decision

Giles Barnes denies diving for the penalty that gave West Brom a 2-0 win last night at the Liberty Stadium.

Swansea City Paulo Sousa criticised the referee’s decision and said he expected the ref stopped play to give Barnes a yellow card for diving.

Instead, he pointed to the spot as he penalised Angel Rangel for bringing the player down inside the box.

Barnes says the Spanish right back made contact and the penalty was a fair decision:

‘I’ve just faced him up, come inside, faked to shoot and dragged it inside of him,’

‘He’s tried to turn with me and his knee’s caught my knee. So that’s a penalty,’

‘Obviously it’s good to come on and have an impact, but if I hadn’t come on there’s plenty of talent on the bench and plenty of talent out on the pitch to have done the same thing,’

Swansea City will now look to put things right on Saturday with an away trip to QPR.
