It’s been confirmed today that from the beginning of the 2019-20 campaign, a minimum of 190 Premier League games will be screened live on TV.
The BBC report that Premier League chairman have voted unanimously to approve the increased package, with the rights set to go out for auction shortly before Christmas.
It’s believed a new package of Saturday night games will be up for sale to broadcasters, along with increased midweek and Bank Holiday fixtures.
They state there will be a minimum of 22 additional live games on offer in the package that will eventually replace the record £5.136billion deal signed with Sky and BT Sport back in 2015.
The last agreement showed a 70% increase on the previous £3billion deal and involved 168 live games which represented a cost to broadcasters of £10.2million per match.
Sky paid £4.176billion for 126 matches including the new Friday night slot and Sunday packages, with BT Sport paying £960million for 42 games.
The Premier League are obviously hopeful that the new deal will again result in an increase in money and this tender process is expected to see interest from the likes of Amazon and Apple as they dip their toes in potentially.
