Southampton look set to lose a host of top assets this Summer, with manager Mauricio Pochettino already confirmed as Spurs’ new boss. Left back Luke Shaw also looks set for a big move to Manchester United so they’ll be looking for a quality replacement.
However, Spurs look like they’ll be the frontrunners to try and sign fullback Ben Davies with Pochettino reportedly being a big admirer of the Welshman.
Money will surely be available for the Argentine boss to guarantee the London club a top four finish in 2015, following a disappointing year considering the money that was spent last Summer.
Ben Davies admitted he was flattered in January when he heard the news that La Liga champions Atletico Madrid were interested in him, but he said ‘it’s not going to turn his head’.
‘The first I knew about Atletico was when a pal texted me the morning the story appeared,’
‘My phone beeped and there was this message saying, ‘Have you seen this? Atletico Madrid?!’ I went online to see what it was all about. It is nice to hear something like that, because it clearly means you must be doing something right.
‘It’s got to be a boost for your confidence but it’s not going to turn my head. I don’t need something like that to make me concentrate on what’s in front of me or suddenly up my game. I’m going to do that anyway, for myself and my club.
‘I am ambitious about playing at the highest level I can but I tend to think that if you put performances in to the best of your ability, things will take care of themselves.
Second choice Neil Taylor is also considering his future as he is becoming desperate for regular first team football.
He is struggling to earn himself a place at Swansea City and can’t convince Monk that he is a better right back option than Dwight Tiendalli.
Could he change his mind if Ben Davies leaves South Wales? Most probably, but it would be ideal id the two Welshman stay on with the Swans.
