Wales U-21s are without at least 6 first team regulars as they host Italy at the Liberty Stadium in their latest Euro 2011 Qualifier.

Sheffield United Front man Ched Evans and Derby’s towering centre back Lewin Nyatanga are both out with viruses while Chris Gunter and Jack Collison are struggling with calf problems. Also out are Reading forward Simon Church (ankle) and Cardiff defender Adam Matthews (knee).

Swansea midfielder Joe Allen Is also out of contention for tonight’s game having failed to regain fitness after a niggling hamstring problem he picked up against Leicester in the opining game of the season.

Despite the injury problems, under 21 Coach Brian Flynn still remains confident that his young stars can again impress against the favourites to win the group.

Flynn Said:

“Last minute hiccups have occurred, but football produces little spates of injuries unfortunately,”

“It’s a shame because the boys have been excellent in training all week, really impressive.”

“Italy are great challenge to be put up against,”

“Our lads have proved certainly in the last campaign, they can match themselves with the best on their day.”

“They’re one of the top three sides in Europe they have very technically gifted players in every department.”

“But technically we’ll match them because this group are as good as the last group I had even if we’re lacking a number of players.”

Up to 4 Swans players could Feature in the fixture tonight with David Cornell, Jazz Richards and Casey Thomas all looking to impress. While Shaun Macdonald looks to Captain the squad once again despite the squad including the likes of Welsh senior team regulars Neil Eardley and Aaron Ramsey.

Brian Flynn’s side are targeting a place in the 2011 finals in Denmark. And beating Italy tonight could go a long way to making that happen.
