Cedric Van Der Gun says he’s aiming to perform better for the Swans next season in the Championship.

The Dutch winger joined the club in September 2009 on a free transfer and he arrived with plenty of promise and potential, and whilst he has impressed on occasions, he hasn’t shown the fans yet his true quality.

What didn’t help him was his lack of consistent first team appearances, plus Paulo Sousa’s attacking system which rarely produced goals.

The 31 year-old has shown some excellent quality at times, and has the ability to get into excellent attacking positions, and hopefully under a new manager he can show his true potential.

Van Der Gun said:

I enjoyed my last year, played some good football, but I think I can do a lot better,’

‘We had a good season, a lot of points, but we didn’t score a lot of goals. Defensively we were really good, offensively we didn’t score a lot of goals.

‘So I felt really good playing my football but I was a little bit disappointed with my own individual performance because I know I can do a lot better.

‘I have played – especially in Holland – the last couple of years really well, so… from this year, offensively I want to do a lot more than I did last year.

Van Der Gun has one year remaining on his contract but has the option to extend this by a further 12 months. He is expected to meet with Brendan Rodgers soon to discuss his future.

He added:

‘Maybe he wants to wait to see a couple of training sessions, a couple of games, maybe in the next few days he’ll come to me and we’ll have a talk,’

‘Of course you always want to know what’s going to happen, so we’ll see.

‘My situation is I have a contract for another year but I can leave transfer-free, it was a deal I had with the chairman [Huw Jenkins].

‘So we have to wait and see, especially with the new manager coming in, what their expectations are for me this season. When I find out we’ll see what’s going to happen.’
