The top three players in the 1-1 draw away at West Brom, as voted by you – the fans in our Rate the Players feature.

The top 3 players sums up the game and our performance really. The top-rated player is the captain

It was a disappointing performance to say the least. We were too defensive and apart from Ayew’s big chance in the first half, we were rather toothless in attack. Fortunately, our only other real chance – from a corner and not from open play – was well finished by Tammy Abraham, heading in Clucas’ in-direct cross – his first League goal since October.

1. Federico Fernandez – 8.7/10

The skipper looked back to his best at the Hawthorns and it was no surprise to see him top of the ratings. He was a commanding figure in the heart of defence. He’s not well known for his dominating aerial ability but he won 5 aerial challenges against a strong and physical West Brom side. Pass success rate: 79% (30/38). rating: 6.9/10

2. Lucasz Fabianski – 7.9/10

The Polish goalkeeper had two saves to make in the game – which was two more than his opposite number Ben Foster, and was generally solid throughout, as he has been the whole season. rating: 6.3/10

3. Mike van der Hoorn – 7.5/10

The Dutch centre back only played the first 45 minutes after suffering a shoulder injury which makes him doubtful for Saturday’s home game against Everton, but he did enough to earn another 7+ rating from the fans, after another solid performance. Some fans are still hesitant to heap praise on the 25 year-old, he might not have that continental quality with the ball at his feet but sometimes you need a no-nonsense defender who isn’t afraid to get stuck in. He’s useful in the air, and Mawson can make up for his limited passing ability.

There were no significant stats to back up van der Hoorn’s performance, but he did have an 87% passing success rate (26/30) – which was the highest across the back five. Only Clucas and Andre Ayew had a higher rate. rating: 7.0/10
