Swansea City captain Federico Fernandez spoke this week about his future at the club as well as the speculation linking him with a move to Russian side Krasnodar, as he revealed that the links are true and that he does want to “play at the highest level”.

With further speculation suggesting that the Swans are looking to sell him to reduce the wage bill, it looks like it’s only a matter of time before our skipper leaves before the Summer transfer window closes.

During his interview, Fernandez also revealed what the club’s “idea” was in terms of building a new squad for next season, saying that they want to mix the younger players with experience.

A number of fans have already shown their concern at a lack of signings so far and the likely exodus that is soon expected. Our squad at Yeovil on Tuesday night just shows our current lack of strength in depth, as well as available experience. Yes, there are a few, more experienced and senior players injured, but even when they’re fit, we need to increase the experience and depth within the squad significantly.

I’m sure fans will be somewhat relieved to read the comments from Fernandez below because so far we’re continually being linked with 19-21 year-olds. That is fine, and the players we’re being linked with appear to have plenty of potential, but we still would like to see a few, more established players also targetted.

“The idea of the club is to mix the younger players with some of the more experienced guys. The club are building from there,”

“There is a lot of work to do. Now the young guys have their chance because in the last two years they have been working very hard to get into the first team.

“This year will be a good chance to see them involved and I hope they show their quality and we can do well.” – Federico Fernandez

The Swans are also closing in on the signing of 19-year-old Sunderland forward Joel Asoro after Potter admitted that he’s a player they’ve known about for a while.

“He is an exciting player. He is someone we have known for a while and he has high-end quality,”

“He is very, very direct and has extreme pace which we think can help us.

“But until he is a Swansea City player I do not want to say too much.

“All I know is we have had a bid accepted and there is no news to report in terms of finalising everything.”
