Swansea City defender Alan Tate says he wants to be the new centre back that the fans have been crying out for recently.
The full back has spent more than 2 months on the sidelines but he’s back in training now hoping to secure a first team place within the back four.
Angel Rangel has arrived to take over his right back place and has proved to be a superb capture by Roberto Martinez.
Tate has played in that position with the Swans for the past few seasons and it looked as if he had made it his own and his consistent performances there and his partnership with Leon Britton in front of him.
With Rangel’s superb consistent form, Tate is now looking for a place at centre back this season and said:
|“People keep saying we need another centre-back, but I want to be that guy,”
“I think I can do a job if I`m given the chance.
“I`m not going to close the book on right-back or central midfield. But I would like to be given a chance at centre-half.
“I didn`t mind being moved around into different positions. I really enjoyed it and, if the team needs me to, I`d do it again. But for now I want to stick to central defence.”
“My knee feels good and hopefully I will be back in the full squad soon,”
Alan Tate also talked about his future at the club. He is yet to be offered new terms but says he loves playing for Swansea City:
|“It`s not really in my hands, I`d love to stay and the club knows that.
“I`m happy here in Wales and I love playing for Swansea. It`s not something I want to give up.
“I`d like to get it sorted as soon as possible if they are going to offer me something. But it`s the manager`s choice and I understand that.”
