Swansea City vice-captain Alan Tate, hardly a person to mince his words about, says we’ll get what we deserve next Sunday, whether we finish in the play-offs or not.

His fellow defender Garry Monk could find an explanation to our slump in form recently – which has seen us drop out of the top 6, but Tate says we just haven’t been good enough lately.

“We can`t say we deserve to be in the play-offs because you finish where you deserve,”

“We went to Bristol City and didn`t perform and it meant it didn`t matter how well we performed at Sheffield United we needed the result – and we didn`t get it. The last two away games at a crucial stage haven`t been good enough.

“You can understand some fans being a bit of doom and gloom because we`ve blown it in terms of being in our own hands, there`s no two ways to look at it. There`s no point trying to sugar coat it, it`s our fault and we have to take the responsibility.”

“There`s frustration at the moment because we know we might have thrown it away after doing so well,”

“But we have to remember it`s still been a very good season for the club – whatever happens we will still finish higher than we have done for 27 years.

“I think we can still be proud of what we`ve done as a team and, personally speaking, it`s been good for me because I feel I`ve shown my consistency. I think I showed it last year too but I`ve stepped it up this season and I`ve also done it at centre-half which was the position I was signed for.”

Tate also commented on winning the Supporters’ player of the year award:

‘I won that award after being written off the previous season,”

“And it`s good this time because I was written off as a centre-back too. Roberto Martinez certainly didn`t fancy me there and it`s been good to prove him wrong with my performances this year.”

“It`s not about me, it`s about the club – and the season`s not over yet. I don`t know why people are suddenly thinking it`s impossible to think Blackpool might only draw their game.

“We`ve always left it to the last game when I`ve been at Swansea.

“Now all we can hope is that Bristol City put in a performance and have a go. We`ve got to do our job first just hope they`re not thinking about their holidays.”
