Swansea City are closing in on a second Summer signing
Swansea City look set to confirm their second signing of the Summer this week as long-term target Franck Tabanou has reportedly undergone a medical today (Thursday).
He is expected to sign a 3 or 4-year contract within the next day or two for a fee believed to be £3.5m – a reduced fee as he only has one year remaining on his current deal at Saint-Etienne.
Around two weeks ago, his agent confirmed that Tabanou had already chosen to join Swansea City:
‘Has chosen Swansea, he has told me he is not interested in any other offers from any other clubs,’
It looks like the Swans and Saint-Etienne have not agreed a fee as the French club initially said that the Premier League side would have to up their offer.
The 26 year-old, who stands 5’10, is a versatile left sided player who is mainly an attacking left back but can also play as a left winger.
Tabanou would interest Monk’s requirements for more versatile players and wide players who can attack as well as track back and defend effectively.
He would add much needed competition for Neil Taylor, who has this week signed a new 4-year contract. While both players would compete for the left back spot, they could both potentially play together down the left given Tabanou’s attacking strengths.
Garry Monk is certainly moving quickly with his Summer signings, and he is still likely to be looking at another 2 or 3 new signings at least before pre-season training starts.
