Chairman Huw Jenkins has told the Official site that they had a deal agreed for Millwall defender Zak Whitbread, but due to an injury to the American, the Swans will now review the situation in January.

The 25 year-old could cost the Swans £700,000 as Peterborough United had a fee of that amount agreed with Millwall, but the move fell through as the player couldn’t agree personal terms with the Championship outfit.

Jenkins said:

‘We agreed a deal for Zak with Millwall,”

‘But because he has just had a hip operation, the player felt it was better if he remained at the club until he was fully fit again.

‘We will review the situation again in January.”

Swansea City have since signed Trinidad and Tobago defender Abu Bakr on an initial 3-month deal.
