Swansea City will assess Michu’s head injury to see if he’s able to face Southampton on Sunday.
The Spaniard suffered a nasty cut during Thursday’s 1-0 home Europa League win against St Gallen and required stitches at half time to stop the bleeding.
He may need to wear head protection for this weekend’s tough trip to Southampton – a side currently 6th in the Premier League table.
After the game, Michu talked about the injury and said:
“I always want to win the ball for my team, no matter if it hurts because I want to score,”
“It did hurt quite a bit – the fact is he caught me on my head with his studs and I was angry because I thought it was a penalty.
“But I don`t think about what will happen to me. I am not special, I just want to do whatever I can for my team-mates.
“The blood kept getting onto my shirt every time I put a new one on when I was on the sideline, and because of where it was on my head the bandages just wouldn`t hold.
“So the physios put Vaseline on it to stop the bleeding until half-time and then I had stitches put in.
“For Sunday, I will need to wear something to play because the wound will re-open if I head the ball or there`s contact in that area of my head.”
“I have had so many showers to get the Vaseline out of my hair – I can`t get it out though.
“There was a lot of it used because the cut is quite big on my head. I think I could have 100 showers and it would still be the same.”
It’s obvious how much he wants to play in every game so it’ll take a very nasty head injury to force him out of a League game this weekend.
