Swansea City manager Francesco Guidolin is still unsure if striker Borja Baston will be fit enough to feature on Sunday

Swansea City manager Francesco Guidolin is still unsure if striker Borja Baston will be fit enough to feature in Sunday’s home game against Chelsea.

After a two-week international break, the club’s new Summer record signing was expected to make a return this weekend, but the Swansea boss still didn’t sound convinced that he’d be available even to be named amongst the substitutes.

The £15.5m Summer signing from Atletico Madrid is ‘injury free’ according to Guidolin, but he says that he still requires 2-3 days of low intensity work.

Guidolin said:

‘He is working, but he has to go slow (in training) for two or three days,’ said Guidolin. ‘He does not have an injury. I hope to have him available for the bench on Sunday, but I don’t know. I am not sure at the moment.

‘He worked with us last week but he needs some days where he works slowly. He is almost ready to play.’

We’re also unlikely to see new signing Mawson start, and he’ll have to compete for a place on the bench, along with fellow Summer signing Mike van der Hoorn.

Swansea fans are having to remain patient to see the new record signing in action, as well as waiting for Llorente to get off the mark. The Spaniard had a promising season opener at Burnley, having a number of headers on target but he has struggled with a lack of service in the following two games.

That will need improving if we’re to see Llorente get on the scoresheet.
