Huw Jenkins has hinted the club are in no rush to add the final pieces in the championship squad jigsaw.
After missing out on signing Paul Anderson to Nottingham Forest, Roberto Martinez is firmly searching for a winger with pace and has Chelsea’s highly sought after 19 year old Scott Sinclair in his sights. Liverpool’s Adam Hammill has also been touted as a target for the Spaniard but Jenkins has warned that there maybe a short wait for more new players to be brought into the club as premier league sides return to pre season in the next couple of weeks.
Confirming that Martinez has made a few enquiries over a few of his targets the local businessman is hoping to land a player than can have the same impact as Anderson. Balancing the squad’s dynamics Jenkins has revelled that the club are out to get a blend of experience and youth to mount a challenge on the second tier of the British game.
Jenkins Told The SWEP:
|“It’s no secret that Roberto is looking for someone with pace to come in and play wide right. We have lost Paul Anderson and Roberto wants somebody similar. If he could get somebody like Paul who would have the same sort of impact as he did we would be very happy. Roberto has enquired about a number of players.|
He is looking to get another youngster from the Premier League because he feels that will work well. We have brought in the experience of Mark Gower so a younger player will give us a nice mix. But we may have to be patient. Some of the Premier League clubs are not even back training yet, so it could be a couple of weeks or more before we get a deal done.
We have until the end of August, we already have the core of the squad in place. Our focus is on making sure we take the step into the Championship as a squad, not on the players we haven’t got.”
Swansea City will face Östersunds FK on Thursday as part of pre season preparations.
