According to our recent site poll, Swansea City fans want defensive signings in this month’s January transfer window – and you can hardly blame them.

Recently we asked you what position(s) you’d most like to see us strengthen, and the defence was by far the winner – with a massive 76% of the votes.

Garry Monk is severely lacking full back cover. He has no natural left sided full back in the squad, while Jazz Richards and Dwight Tiendalli aren’t up to standard to match Angel Rangel who sometimes lacks the pace to cope. His reading of the game and his attacking support is excellent, but he can sometimes he caught out against a quick winger.

Rather surprisingly, in second place was goalkeeper – probably a knee-jerk reaction following big errors from Fabianski and Tremmel.

Fabianski is one of the best goalkeepers the club has had in many years, but Tremmel doesn’t add strong enough back up to the number one.

The German veteran lacks confidence in the air compared to Fabianski’s excellent ability to catch high balls.

Nobody voted that we need to strengthen our forwards, despite Wilfried Bony leaving for the African Cup of Nations. It seems our readers are happy with Bafetimbi Gomis and new loan signing Nelson Oliveira as our attacking options.

Do you think Garry Monk will add to his squad following the arrivals of Matt Grimes and loanee Nelson Oliveira? Should the Swansea City manager be looking at full backs this month or are there other areas of the squad that need strengthening?
