Another football season comes to an end on Sunday afternoon and it’s been another year of enjoyment and success under manager Roberto Martinez.

We won’t be competing for the last play-off spot, our hopes of a top 6 finish were ended last week at Sheffield United but we’ll still be looking to end the season on a high and finishing with 71 points – an excellent total considering our small budget, lack of experience and the fact that we haven’t been this high in the Football League for 24 years.

This season you could say has flown by, we’ve enjoyed a superb 3-month spell when we forgot what a defeat felt like, we beat Hull and Cardiff City in the Carling Cup as well as enjoying a decent run in the FA Cup.

Roberto Martinez also strengthened the squad further last Summer, adding the likes of Jordi Gomez, Mark Gower and Gorka Pintado to the side.

We ended our 2006/2007 season with a home game against Blackpool but we’ll be hoping for a completely different scoreline this time around! Andy Morrell scored 4 as Blackpool won 6-3 in their promotion year.

Blackpool will arrive in different circumstances but they’ll be happy that they won’t need to compete against the drop back to League One. They confirmed their safety last week, drawing 1-1 with fellow relegation rivals Nottingham Forest.

The club are expecting one of their biggest crowds of the season as they confirmed on Friday that 15,000 home tickets had already been sold.

Vital Quotes:

Roberto Martinez:

‘I don’t believe that we have nothing to play for tomorrow,’

‘It’s a very important game for us because we need to finish this season on a high.

‘We want to taste that winning feeling again before we break up for the summer.’

Swansea City Team News:

Martinez has doubts over defensive duo Garry Monk and Angel Rangel. Monk is struggling with a hamstring strain while Rangel is still having problems with his achilles.

Other than that, the Swans have no other injury worries.

Player to watch: Jordi Gomez

He won the fans’ player of the year award this week and hopefully this won’t be his last game in a Swansea City shirt.

Blackpool Team News:

Caretaker boss Tony Parkes will be without 4 players for their visit to the Liberty Stadium. Defender Rob Edwards is undergoing surgery on his ankle so he sits out.

Gary Taylor-Fletcher (knee) and Stephen McPhee (knee) are out, so too is the suspended Ian Evatt.

Player to watch: Charlie Adams

Currently on loan from Rangers, has good skill, and likes to shoot from distance, could cause the defence problems.

Match Facts & Stats

Swansea City edge the head to head battles, winning 13, Blackpool winning 12 and 15 draws. it’s 12-12 in League games though, as we won our only FA Cup tie against the Seasiders.

Blackpool haven’t lost in the last 4, they’ve drawn 3 and won 1 – they beat Preston away 1-0.

Swansea City have lost once in the last 6, going 5 games unbeaten before last week’s 1-0 defeat at Sheffield United.

Match Prediction:

Swansea City will be looking to end the season on a high and with a win and I think we’ll edge them – 2-1 Swansea win.

Next Fixtures:

Swansea City will next be in action in July during their Spain summer tour.
