Swansea City are set to begin new contract discussions with Darren Pratley as they hope secure the services of one of our key players.

The midfielder has been strongly linked with a move to our Championship rivals Nottingham Forest, who have apparently made a bid for the former Fulham man, but chairman Huw Jenkins ruled out media reports linking him with a move.

Jenkins told the Official Site:

‘Now that our new manager (Brendan Rodgers) is in place, we will be looking to start discussions with Darren Pratley over a new contract,”

‘I had a private conversation with Nottingham Forest a few weeks ago which, as we agreed, will stay private.

‘I assume that today’s story is an attempt by agents to put pressure on us. It’s certainly not a new story, so I’m very disappointed.

‘But I can state quite categorically that we will not be pressurised or bullied by anyone.

‘We will deal with things the right way for our football club. I can assure supporters that nobody will leave this club unless the deal is right for us and every other option has been exhausted.”

Pratley’s current deal expires in June 2011 and it’s vital that we keep one of our most important players. Hopefully soon there’ll be news that he’s put pen to paper on a new deal at the Liberty Stadium.
