Swansea City have confirmed that they have rejected Everton’s bid for captain Ashley Williams.
Contrary to Wales Online’s ‘exclusive’ report on Monday evening that the club skipper was set to complete a £10m move to Everton by Wednesday, a club spokesperson has confirmed that they have rejected the Toffee’s offer.
Twitter went into (another) meltdown when the news broke, as many fans were left shocked and let down by the club appearing to allow their skipper to leave.
But 24 hours later, Wales Online have had to back track on their initial report, with a spokesperson confirming:
“Ashley Williams is an important part of our squad and club and we are not looking to sell him, and therefore we have turned down the offer currently on the table.”
Some fans may also want to backtrack on their opinions of last night’s ‘news’ – as it now appears that it was completely false, as they claimed that the club were allowing the move to happen.
Andre Ayew is also being linked with a move to West Ham, but again, he hasn’t left, there’s no news that a bid has been accepted, and Huw Jenkins won’t sell a player they will have to replace before allowing to leave.
Jenkins has always proven to play hard-ball on deals, which has sometimes held us back with signing players, but he has often got good deals at the correct valuation when selling players – I think some fans forget that.
But having said that, incoming signings need to happen within the next few weeks. Sevilla striker Llorente is being strongly linked with a move here, after his agent initially said that he wanted to stay put. We first reported that we were linked with the striker here, as shortly afterwards, Alan Curtis confirmed that he is on a short list of striker targets.
