It has been reported that today, Swansea City are preparing a new improved £2 Million bid to bring Boro’ captain Matthew Bates to the Liberty Stadium.

Brendan Rodgers has already had a bid rejected for the talented Middlesbrough Captain, who can play anywhere along the back four and midfield.

With the recent freak accident which left Swans vice-captain Alan Tate with a fractured Tibia, Swansea’s defensive options are stretched with club-captain Gary Monk and Jazz Richards still not fully fit – Boro’ boss Tony Mowbray has plenty of bargaining power with just a day left in the transfer window.

With this in mind, a no-nonsense £2 Million bid for Bates will likely be difficult for Middlesbrough to turn down.

Matthew Bates has just 1-year left on his lucrative contract at Middlesbrough and is currently among the highest earners at the club.
