Swansea City Must Make The Most of Next 5 Games

Swansea City have the perfect opportunity over the next five Premier League games to really make their season, as they face a number of opposition teams battling near them at the bottom of the table.

Saturday’s visit of Burnley is the only team out of the next 5 who are in the top half of the table and not involved in the relegation battle. After that, we’re up against Brighton & Hove Albion (a), West Ham United (h), Huddersfield Town (a) and Southampton (h).

The Swans have defied the odds in recent games, gaining 7 points against Liverpool, Arsenal and Leicester City, but points against the clubs around us count for even more. It might still only be three points, but it’s a chance to gain points on our closest rivals, and put extra pressure on the likes of West Ham, Brighton and Huddersfield.

Earlier in the season, we gifted points to the likes of Watford, Brighton and Newcastle at home, and now we’ve got to take some points ourselves.

We were hit by a big injury blow today with the news that both Leroy Fer and Wilfried Bony are out injured for the rest of the season, but hopefully deadline day signings Adam King and Andre Ayew can fill the void.

Having been rooted to the bottom of the table, we’re now out of the bottom three, four points ahead of rock-bottom West Brom, but it’s still very close, adding even more importance to picking up some points against our relegation rivals.

Our next two games are against Brighton and West Ham, two sides who are on 27 points – just three ahead of us – so an opportunity to go level with Brighton on 24th February.

Then, it’s a trip to Huddersfield Town, a side who are really struggling for form which has seen them drop into the bottom three, level on points with ourselves. Again, a chance to gain 3 points on the newly promoted side. The final key game of five is at home against Southampton, a side which probably shouldn’t be struggling down in 15th and on 26 points. Manchester United follows, before a trip to bottom side West Brom.
