Swansea City look set to sign Barnsley defender Alfie Mawson after having a fee agreed for the 22 year-old.
The Swans official site have confirmed that a fee has been agreed, and they will now discuss personal terms ahead of a medical.
Sky Sports News believe that the undisclosed fee agreed is around £5m, but it’s not known whether that’s including any add-ons.
Following the departure of captain of Ashley Williams to Everton this Summer, a new defender became the club’s new top priority before transfer deadline day.
It might not be the name many of us had in mind to replace our former skipper, but Mawson has received rave reviews with many tipping him to cope with the step up to the Premier League – saying he’s ready to come into Swansea’s first team.
It may be difficult for him to do that, as Guidolin will want to see Amat and Fernandez’s partnership develop and improve. The Swansea manager did admit that a fourth centre half was needed before it is a long season, and further defensive cover is needed when injuries and suspensions come into play.
The 22 year-old is also a goalscoring centre back, netting 7 goals last year in League One and cup games for Barnsley – the same amount as our striker Bafetimbi Gomis! He’s already scored twice so far this season following the club’s return to the Championship.
