Swanse City are apparently close to completing a season long loan move for Villareal midfielder Jonathan De Guzman.

After news yesterday linking Laudrup with a £2.5m move for Chico Flores, the Swans now appear close to signing De Guzman on loan, with an option of signing him permanently at the end of the season. Both players worked with Laudrup when he was manager at Mallorca.

Michael Laudrup looks keen to replace last season’s influential loan duo Steven Caulker and Gylfi Sigurdsson and both Flores and De Guzman could come in to fill the holes left behind by the two youngsters.

Canadian-born de Guzman started his career at Feyernoord – spending five years at the Dutch club before moving to Mallorca in 2010. Mallorca were forced to sell him to help their financial problems just a year later, with Villareal paying around ?8.5m for his services.

The 24 year-old said he joined Mallorca in 2010 because of the amount of faith Laudrup and the club owner had shown in him. He’d probably be keen to work with the Dane again in the Premier League.

Whilst Sigurdsson scored 7 goals for the Swans last season, de Guzman failed to scored in 19 league appearances last term, despite also being an attacking midfielder.
