Roberto Martinez turned his attentions away from the leauge to the Johnston’s Paint Trophy 2nd round tonight. Swansea played hosts to League Two side Wycombe Wanderers.

Martinez had rung the changes from the weekend with starts for Kristian O Leary , Kevin Amankwaah , Kevin Austin, Andrea Orlandi and Guillem Bauza. There was also a familiar face in the Wycombe line with Tom Williams starting for The Chairboys.

The visitors started the brighter with an early chance falling to Matt Bloomfield who was allowed space in the final third. The former Ipswich town midfielder unleashed a ferocious strike that had Dorus De Vries well beaten; his effort came off the crossbar.

Both sides continued to press for the opener but could not provide that telling pass to beat the defense. The Home side began to make the pressure tell with a succession of corners. Defender Marcos Painter picked the ball up half way in the Wycombe half and fired his shot over the bar.

Swansea continued to pile on the pressure and got their just rewards on the 29th minute. An injection of pace from Paul Anderson the midfielder was able to collect a sublime pass from Spaniard Andrea Orlandi. Anderson cleverly offloaded the ball to Guillem Bauza in the penalty area. Bauza slotted the ball into the bottom left hand corner past the on loan Bolton keeper Przemyslaw Kazimierczak for his first goal for the club.

Resurgent Swansea piled forward and doubled their lead only minutes later after some fine work by Orlandi. Anderson managed to latch onto Orlandi’s header and placed it past Kazimierczak in the Wycombe goal.

With 35 minutes on the clock Martinez made his first substitution of the match with Joe Allen coming on for Dutchman Ferrie Bodde.

Swansea were denied a 3rd goal by a contentious decision by the linesmen. Bauza took advantage of a poor defensive pass and was one on one with Kazimierczak but placed his shot wide of the target. Darren Prately screamed into the box and finished off at close range. The goal was disallowed as Prately was adjudged to been offside.

Half time score 2-0

It was the visitors who started the 2nd half the brighter with a few shots on goal. Swansea were dealt a serious blow to their campagin this season when Pratley and Bauza went for the ball in the centre circle. Prately was stretchered off with a serious leg injury and was taken straight to Morriston Hospital by the medical team for scans.

Martinez immediately substituted the midfeilder for Warren Feeney.

O Leary picked the ball up in the centre of midfield and surged forward holding off 3 Wycombe defenders before Leon Johnson stopped his run. Wanderers manager Paul Lambert made his first substitution on 59 minutes Lewis Christon replaced Leon Johnson.

The Blues started to get a stranglehold on the game and Dorus De Vries made a fantastic aerobatic save to palm a Reuben Reid effort over the bar.

Swansea then wasted a golden opportunity to go 3-0 up when a O Leary pass sent Feeney clear through on Kazimierczak in the blues goal. The on loan Cardiff City striker saw his initial shot blocked by the Pole who did not get up from the follow through from Feeney. The Wycombe defense did not clear the ball from box and Man of the Match Anderson unleashed an effort on goal which was blocked quickly by Will Antwi. The Danger was not over for Wanderers as Scottish Defender David McCracken denied Feeney at close range.

Lambert made his 2nd substitution of the match as Derek Duncan came on for Russell Martin.Martinez also made a change when Dennis Lawrence came on for Marcos Painter.

Forth official A Williams indicated 7 minutes of added time to be played. Swansea continued to press for a 3rd when Andrea Orandi picked up the ball in the Wycombe half and beat his marker to go clear through on goal . Orlandi quickly got a shot off only to see it saved by Kazimierczak.

Swansea played out the final few minutes in the Wycombe half and secured a 2-0 win over the Blues.

Swansea are now through to the Southern Section Quarter Finals but the result will be marred by the serious leg injury to Darren Prately.
