The Club have confirmed that they are trailing Senegalese striker Ibrahima Thiam.
The striker has been playing in Belgium with KFC Verbroedering Geel who play in the Belgian leagues second tier. Thiam is out of contract with theDe Leunen based outfit.
It is likely that Thaim will feature in tonight’s game vs Neath Athletic.
The 25 year old striker has played in Europe consistantly and is very much a journey man.
He started his career in the 2002/03 season with Dakar UC a Senagal club side based in the Capital Dakar. The then attracted interest from European Sides and then joined Kickers Emden on a free transfer for the 2004/05 season.
He did not stay long with the Saxony based side. A free transfer from Kickers Emden followed to Norwegian side Strømsgodset IF. Thaim only stayed at the club for 1 season and opted for another European hop to Belgian second division side KFC Verbroedering Geel.
He has since had spells with other Belgian sides that include Union Royale Namur, AFC Tubize and KFC Verbroedering Geel.
There should be no work permit problems as Thaim has dual Belgian and Senegalese nationality and under EU work laws he can ply his trade in any European Union member state without the need of a work permit.
Swansea City Manager Roberto MartinezOn the Official site:
|”’Ibrahima was recommended to us by our Belgian scout and will be spending a few days on trial here,” ‘He’s currently out of contract in Belgium and we’ll have a good look at him.|
I can see him having a run out either tonight or at Llanelli tomorrow.”
The club are certainly casting the net wide in the search of new players. It strikes me as a little odd to be looking at a striker when we have 4 top quality strikers at the club but a 5th striker may be useful when injuries and suspensions kick in.
It is a little worrying the amount of clubs that Thaim has amassed in his very short career to date. He seems a player who can get unsettled very easily.
