Swansea City have won the race to sign Trinidad and Tobago International Jason Scotland from St Johnston. The Swans have confirmed that he will move to the Liberty Stadium subject to securing a work permit.

There has been much speculation over the final destination of Scotland in the last few weeks with Roberto Martinez trying to secure his services. Swansea have also had competition to sign Scotland from Hibernian.

Swansea City Manager Roberto Martinez On Jason Scotland on the official site:

“I’m delighted to be able to secure a player of Jason’s calibre,”

“Goalscorers are the most precious commodity in football and I believe we’ve persuaded a quality striker to join us.

“He is a striker with all-round ability which will enable him to play in a number of roles that give us different options.

“He has a magic touch and can make something happen out of nothing. He’s an exciting player who always entertains and attracts the crowds – and players like that are a rare breed.

“I’m not surprised that there has been a lot of interest in him from a number of clubs, especially as he was due to become a free agent in August.

“It’s also a bonus that he knows the British football scene having spent four successful years playing in Scotland.”

Swansea have taken advantage of a unique situation in Scotland’s contract which was set to run till August. It it thought that we will pay a fee to St Johnston to release him from his contract.

Scotland will become Martinez’s first Summer signing. He was voted in the SPFA’s Scottish Division One ‘Team of the Year’.

He also played in last year’s World Cup in Germany and becomes the 3rd Trinidad and Tobagan at the club along with Kevin Austin and Dennis Lawrence.

Scotland scored 26 goals for St Johnstone last season. He has also scored 33 goals in 66 League appearances at McDiarmid Park and adds a proven goal scoring record to the Swansea strike force.

This is a superb signing for the Swans and will add a new dimension to attacking options.
