Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers is hopeful that they can beat off interest from Liverpool and Everton to sign young striker Rory Donnelly.

The Swans are hoping to move in quick to capture the 19 year-old frontman after Northern Irish side Cliftonville accepted their fee for the player.

Rodgers, also an Northern Irishman himself, is hoping to convince Donnelly that South Wales is the best place for him and his career. While Liverpool and Everton are both far bigger and more established clubs, the youngster may find it easier and quicker to get into the first team at Swansea.

Rodgers said:

‘Rory is in Swansea for talks. He will be here for the next couple of days so hopefully we can tie up the deal,’

‘I can only sell the package that is here. It’s a great package for any player, youth or senior.

‘I know the background of where Rory is from and where he is at in his career, then this will be a brilliant place for him. I’m sure in the couple of days he is here, he will recognise that.’
