Swansea City have reportedly tabled a £7m bid for Napoli defender Federico Fernandez

Swansea City have reportedly tabled a £7m bid for Napoli defender Federico Fernandez – as they step up their search for a defender.

Chico Flores is edging closer to completing a move to be reunited with former manager Michael Laudrup at Qatar side Lekhwiya – thought to be worth around £4m.

With just two weeks to go until the season starts, as Garry Monk set to only have 3 centre backs in his squad, the pressure is now on to bring in another defender, as he looks set to lose a player who was a first team regular alongside Ashley Williams last season.

With Michu joining the Italian giants on a season-long loan, the Swans will be hoping a deal can be agreed with Napoli to sign Fernandez – who featured for Argentina in the recent World Cup in Brazil.

Napoli may be unwilling to sell him until they’ve brought in a replacement, and they may also hold out for more than the £7m bid, so you can expect this to be another transfer that may go on for a couple of weeks.

At present, Kyle Bartley and Jordi Amat compete for a starting place alongside Ashley Williams for the opening game of the season at Manchester United on Saturday 16th August (12:45pm).
