News today is that the new stadium will finally be named as the temporary and un-original name of ‘New Stadium, Swansea’ will be scrapped.

An announcement on who has won the sponsorship deal for the naming rights will be made next week and final talks are being made with sponsors as just 2 or 3 companies are in the running.

Speculation has grown recently that the new stadium will be named the ‘Liberty Stadium’ but we won’t know for definite until next week.

StadCo chairman Gerald Clement said today: ‘We want to ensure the successful company that takes on such an important role is the right one. We are working round the clock to conclude a deal.’

Nigel Davies, editor of Swans fanzine A Touch Far Vetched, said: ‘The process has been a shambles from start to finish.

‘I would certainly welcome any progress in securing a sponsor and would prefer to see a local company or one with links to Swansea.

‘I would like to see the sponsor incorporate the name White Rock into the stadium name. That would be a hugely popular move.

‘If White Rock isn’t in the name, then whatever name they choose will be lost among the fans and will be largely ignored.’
