Spanish defenders Angel Rangel and Jordi Amat have both extended their Swansea City contracts by a further year.

Angel Rangel extends his stay at the Liberty Stadium until 2017, while Jordi Amat has also put pen to paper to extend his deal until the Summer of 2018.

Both players have struggled in recent months to be involved in the first team, as the likes of Federico Fernandez and new January signing Kyle Naughton keeping the pair out of the first team.

However, it’s encouraging to see that the pair are still committed to the club despite not being first team regulars.

Angel Rangel, now aged 32, is struggling for pace against some of the wingers in the Premier League, but is reading of the game is still excellent.

He is still proving to be excellent on the attack but his defensive work can be lacking due to his loss of pace.

Amat, meanwhile, started off the season in the side alongside Ashley Williams, but an injury away at Chelsea saw Fernandez come in in his place, and he has since struggled to earn his first team place back – and instead has to rely on Cup games.

‘I’m so happy because it’s important to know the club has confidence and faith in me,’

‘It was a big decision to move my family here. I was moving to a new country and a new league, but it has worked out really well.

‘I’ve played games in the Premier League, the cups and the Europa League, so it has been an amazing experience for me here already. But this is hopefully just the start.’

‘The injury was a tough moment for me, but it happens in football,’

‘You just have to keep working hard and along with the support of the club it makes you stronger.

‘Things can change quickly in football, and you need to be ready and prepared to play in every single game.’

Amat showed plenty of potential at the start of the season and he certainly didn’t look out of place, and he’s been very unlucky to pick up an injury and not to have barely kicked a ball in League action since.

He’s still only 22 years of age though, and could easily be a first team regular within a season or two.
