Paulo Sousa said trying to get through Derby’s defence tonight was ‘like trying to break a wall’ after his side won 1-0 to go third in the table.

Swansea City dominated possession from start to finish, and limited the Rams to just one shot on goal all game.

Our passing game was superb but Clough’s side defended deep and we struggled to break them down as we were always outnumbered in the final third.

Eventually we did in the remaining 10 minutes, Fede Bessone ran through onto Joe Allen’s excellent through ball to fire the ball into the roof of the net to give us all 3 points.

Sousa told BBC Sport:

‘It was a fantastic goal with great quality. It was like trying to break a wall.

‘We probably had 70% possession. It’s not easy to win these games when one team only defends.

‘There was good quality in our game and great attitude once more. We made a lot of effort to win the game and in the end we deserved that.

‘We have a long way to go, but I think we are getting closer to the right match routine. We can be stronger and more competitive.’
