Swansea City midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson won the Vital Swansea man of the match poll vs Aston Villa after scoring a superb 25-yard free-kick to help the team complete a comeback win at Villa Park.

The Icelandic helped the Swans end a 6-game winless run as he cancelled out Jordan Ayew’s opener as Villa’s celebrations and lead barely lasted 5 minutes.

Sigurdsson, who was dropped for the previous game – a 1-0 home defeat against Stoke City showed just why he has to be the player to play behind the lone striker – despite struggling for form in recent months.

Before the free-kick went in, the Swans didn’t really look capable of scoring, as again they lacked any pace and penetration in their play. Yet a goal completely changed things. Monk’s side suddenly played with confidence and belief and with 5 minutes remaining, Barrow’s flick to Naughton allowed the right back to send in an excellent cross for Ayew to simply stick a leg out to find the net from 6 yards out.

It was only betweent the goalscorers for the Man of the Match winner, with Sigurdsson in front with 57% of the votes, ahead of Ayew with 42%. The only other player to get votes was goalkeeper Lucasz Fabianski with 1%.

In our new poll, we want to know what you think the result will be in Saturday’s home game against Arsenal. Can the Swans beat the Gunners again at home? Sigurdsson also scored a great free kick that day, while Gomis won us the game – heading in a Montero cross.
