Reports today suggest that Modou Barrow could be set to join Nottingham Forest on loan for the rest of the season, but should the winger be allowed to go out on loan?

The winger has only played a handful of games for the first team this season, but he has shown glimpses of quality, particularly in a couple of FA Cup ties where his pace down the right caused problems for lower League opposition.

You get the feeling that if we were down in around 14-15th place, we wouldn`t even be considering loaning him out, but as we`re safe having reached the 40-point mark – we can afford to loan out a back up player like Barrow, or can we?

Nathan Dyer has struggled to perform for a while now and doesn`t look like getting in the side any time soon. Marvin Emnes is another option for the right wing spot, so you wonder if Barrow is below this pair in the pecking order.

You could say it`s harsh to see Barrow as third choice winger behind those two, but he`s still very raw and very young, so manager Garry Monk may feel it`s best that he goes out and gets some regular League experience, with a good Championship side that`s aiming for a play-off spot – as they currently sit 9 points adrift of 6th place.

Barrow has the ability and potential to perform in the first team, there`ll be less pressure now after reach the 40-point mark, but having said that, he struggled in a recent home start and was substituted at half time.

He`s far more effective as an impact substitute, using his blistering pace against tiring fullbacks – and it`s exciting to watch.

But with the recent introduction of a new diamond formation system, that doesn`t use wingers – maybe Barrow is better off getting some much needed experience in the Championship.

What do you think?
