Swansea City skipper Garry Monk believes that Jason Scotland can go on to become just as much of a fans favourite as Lee Trundle.

The Trinidad & Tobago international has been in a rich vein of goalscoring form, which included an excellent double against Ipswich Town last weekend.

Now Scotland and the rest of the side have Fulham in their sights, and Monk believes Scotland is the man for the big occassion; the same way as crowd favourite Lee Trundle was.

Monk spoke to the Western Mail:

“Whatever the differences between them, there`s also a lot of similarities,”

“Trunds would love these big games and always delivered.”

“But Jase is the same, they`ve both got that strikers` ego. You saw it at Portsmouth when he nutmegged Sol Campbell – it wasn`t by mistake.”

“It will be the same this Saturday – he will relish it.”

“I don`t think anyone would have had the same impact as Trunds did but Jason`s doing it,”

“And you have to say Jason`s had it tough because Trundle going left a massive hole in the team at the time and an even bigger one in terms of a figurehead for the fans.”

“The affection the supporters had for Lee was huge and the only way Jason could go on and make his own mark was by scoring goals and that`s what he`s done.”

“They`re both better at different things,”

“But if you were to look at playing one up front like we do now then you could only go for Jase.”

“It`s so difficult to play that role and we give him plenty of stick if the control isn`t there – but he`s the first to beat himself up if things aren`t going well and you see those shoulders go down.”

“But he`s one of those players who will go out on the pitch knowing he`s going to score when his confidence is up and the way he`s playing at the moment you would say Jason has the edge on Trundle overall too.”
