Brendan Rodgers remains confident his side can win promotion despite our fourth consecutive away defeat – this time at Burnley.

Yet again, Rodgers told the media that he was ‘bitterly disappointed’ that his team failed to get anything out of a game after Fabio Borini opened the scoring for us early in the second half.

Rodgers has always remained upbeat and confident about his team’s ability, and he still has confidence in us achieving promotion despite showing no signs of being able to pick up points away from home.

‘We shot ourselves in the foot.

‘We had plenty of opportunities in the first half and when they don’t go in you wonder whether luck will be on your side.

‘But for us to get that goal and then turn around and lose like we did is bitterly disappointing.

‘The game was there for us and there is no excuse, we got punished.

‘We didn’t stay in control for long enough, particularly after we scored.

‘We have showed we can control a game on plenty of occasions this season but we failed to do that today.’

Burnley got the winning goal from the penalty spot after Rangel shoved Rodriguez, but Rodgers felt it wasn’t a spot kick:

‘I don’t think it was a penalty. The player has gone down and exaggerated it a bit, but to lose is very frustrating

‘Having worked so hard and then come away with nothing is very disappointing.

‘But our ability to bounce back has become a hallmark of this team and I am still confident we can go up.’
