Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers has praised goalkeeper Michel Vorm, saying he is ‘perfect’ for the team.

The Dutch number 2 stopper impressed on his debut at Manchester City last Monday despite conceding four goals, and on Saturday he showed his quality again at home to Wigan Athletic – saving a penalty to help win us a point.

Rodgers managed to pull one of the biggest bargain in years, paying FC utrecht only £1.5m for his services on a three-year deal.

“You hear it the whole time and it`s right, a good goalkeeper will get you up to 10 points a season,”

“People will see that we have a top goalkeeper.

“We always had a small list of goalkeepers that would fit our style, but it was always about whether we could get him in.

“He is a Dutch number two and I`m sure other clubs have looked at him.

“Other English clubs may have believed he was too small, but for us he is perfect.

“He can help control the game for us and he is a big personality.

“What we had last season with Dorus de Vries was 11 outfield players when we had the ball.

“For us it is more than shot-stopping.

“Our goalkeepers need to understand the game and how we play because we go back to him to build and construct our game.

“People will look at him and say he is not 6ft 4in, but he will make stops other goalkeepers of that size won`t because he is so fast.”
