Brendan Rodgers praised Stephen Dobbie for coming off the bench to score our second goal in yesterday’s 2-0 home win against Scunthorpe United.

The Swansea boss dropped the Scottish striker to the bench after a disappointing performance on Tuesday night against Coventry City – and chose instead to give new loan signing Frank Nouble his debut.

Dobbie scored a superb goal after great work from Tate and Dyer, running onto goal before firing a shot across the goal and into the bottom left-hand corner.

Despite dropping him in favour of a young striker who only joined the club on Friday, Rodgers insists Dobbie has an important role to play in the team:

“Stephen`s a wonderful finisher and whenm he gets the opportunity to score he takes it.

“I know if he starts or comes off the bench then he has got the possibility to score goals.

“He`s a very important part of my group, not just now but for the future as well.”

“But Stephen`s been terrific. I`ve given him a new contract since I`ve been here and he`s done well.

“But there are times when he has to come out of the team.

“The reaction was what I would expect, he`s a good guy and took it very well.

“He`s there ready to contribute and you could see by his performance when he came on that he`s a great team player with great movement who can make the difference.

Rodgers was also pleased with Nouble’s performances, and says he’ll get better and better the more games he plays:

“Frank only arrived through the door on Friday, he`s only 18 and I thought he did very well.

“But he`s got physical presence and needs games, he will become better and better.”
