After injuries to Alan Tate, Kemy Agustien, Craig Beattie and Steven Caulker, plus the news that Fifa have blocked the deadline-day signings of Rafik Halliche and Darnel Situ, the Swans are really struggling for numbers in defence, and they’re relying on the fitness of Garry Monk on Saturday to replace Caulker.
The Swans would now have to rely on signing players who are free agents to strengthen their defence.
Rodgers explained the situation to Wales Online:
“I`ve been led to believe we can only bring in players out of contract,”
“We`re wondering whether there could be any dispensation, but we don`t know at the moment and it`s something we`ll have to pursue.
“But it`s vital for us to get more bodies, there`s no getting away from that. At the moment we have Ashley Williams, who`s been outstanding, and Garry Monk, who`s yet to feature. Other than that we`ve no-one who can step in.
“We`re really small in terms of numbers in that area and no doubt have to reinforce it.
“How many free agents are out there is something we will find out over the next few weeks. We will be using our contacts and get the list of players who are available.”
