Swansea City boss Roberto Martinez said Billericay deserve a lot of credit after today’s FA Cup game at the New Lodge.

The hosts, who compete in 4 leagues lower than the Swans, took the lead after 26 minutes following an error from goalkeeper David Knight.

Just like we’ve done in a number of other games this season, the Swans battled back in the second half as Bauza grabbed a brace to give us a 2-1 win.

Martinez and a few other players told the press prior to the game that they wary of a possible cup upset.

The Swans boss said:

‘It was the sort of game you would expect with the romance of the cup,’

‘I think the lower teams are always the favourites and Billericay deserve a lot of credit because they put on a fantastic show.

‘I wanted a reaction at half-time because a few of our players haven’t played in the cup before, so it was important they knew what it was about.

‘I was happy with the way we competed because this was a potential banana-skin for us and I knew, win or lose, we wouldn’t get a lot of credit.’

Billericay Town boss Matt Jones was proud of his players and said:

‘I am really proud of the team. They stuck to the game-plan and for 90 minutes we performed at an even level,’

‘I believed we could win when we went in front and overall it was an even game – they didn’t bombard our goal.

‘We don’t see the quality of Swansea week in, week out and I think Roberto will be the first to admit it was a tough game and a close encounter.’
