Spaniard Angel Rangel will miss the start of the season through a groin injury.
Rangel who did not travel with the rest of the Squad to Sweden following an operation to correct a long term groin problem has been taking the first tentative steps on the road to recovery. What is clear is that the defender is bitterly disappointed he will not start the season away to Charlton Athletic on the 9th August.
Missing the league one title winning run in last term, Rangel faces the prospect of missing the first few weeks of the season as he builds his fitness for the new league campaign. It has not prevented the former Terrassa from remaining positive and has even declared the only thing on his mind is getting his recovery right.
Rangel Told The SWEP:
|‘I think Charlton may be too early for me, It’s a big disappointment for me.Last season was very good for me and now we are all looking forward to starting out in the Championship. We all want to be part of the team that starts the season but I can’t think about the first game.”|
‘Right now I’m thinking about getting my recovery right and getting fit when I can, not about coming back for a certain game.I felt my groin at the end of last season, but after missing three games I came back for the last two and thought I was okay. When I went on holiday and was resting I was okay, but then when I started to exercise again over the summer I felt the same pain.I called the physio straightaway and he told me to come back to Swansea.”
I came back earlier than the rest of the players and went to see the expert in London who said I needed the operation.’
Swansea City yesterday confirmed that West Bromwich Albion youngster Stefan Morrison signed a contract with the club after a successful trial.
