Angel Rangel has told the local media that he has begun negotiations regarding a new contract at Swansea City.

Brendan Rodgers is keen to keep his prized assets and to avoid losing them for free next Summer when their contracts run out, and Rangel is one of those who could be close to extending his stay with the Swans beyond June 2011.

Rangel was keen for a move to Premiership side Blackpool back in July, but a move never happened and he now seems fully focused on the job in hand at the Liberty Stadium.

Rangel told Wales Online:

“Everybody knows I`m in the last year of my contract and I have started having talks with the manager a few weeks ago,” said the full-back, who sees his current deal expire in the summer.

“But it`s still ongoing and we haven`t spoken again, hopefully we can do again soon and sort it out.”

Darren Pratley is another key player who’s contract expires next Summer, but he has decided not to enter talks about signing a new deal. Wales Online ‘understands’ that the Swans are willing to listen to bids for the midfielder in January. A lot of fans have shown their frustration to Pratley recently for his lack of loyalty and big drop in quality in his performances recently. It’s probably in our best interests to get some much-needed cash for him in January as Rodgers is looking to free up some of the wage bill for new players.
