Right back Angel Rangel is hoping he can prove his fitness to play in the season’s opening game at Leicester City.

The new Championship campaign is now just 8 days away and the Spanish defender is looking to earn himself a starting place.

Rangel has suffered groin and Achilles injuries this Summer which means he hasn’t had the opportunity to prove himself in the pre-season friendly games. He featured briefly during the Spain Tour but he admitted he was feeling anxious as he didn’t want to suffer a further set up.

The same went for Marcos Painter. The left back has been recovering from a knee injury since November and he too hasn’t had the opportunity to prove himself to the management team.

Rangel is hoping to beat off competition from Matty Collins and Albert Serran to play on August 8th, he told the Evening Post:

‘I hope I can play 45 minutes at least,’

‘My groin is100 per cent okay now and my Achilles is 95 per cent. I am in full training, so I am fit.

‘I was quite anxious when I played my first 20 minutes against Palamos last weekend, but I felt more comfortable with the ball when I came on against Sabadell.

‘I am feeling good now and, hopefully, I can get some more minutes against Kilmarnock. Then we will see if I am fully fit for Leicester if the gaffer wants me to play.

‘Leicester is what I am working towards. I am trying hard to show the gaffer that I want to be in his first XI.’
