Swansea City got back to winning ways this evening with a confidence-boosting 2-0 victory away at Preston.
Roberto Martinez was looking for a response from Saturday’s 4-0 thrashing at Reading and he got it as goals from Ferrie Bodde and Jordi Gomez gave us 3 valuable points.
Rangel – Monk – Williams – Painter
Gower – Bodde – Britton – Gomez – Britton
The Swans boss made 2 changes to his side. Jason Scotland was surprisingly missing from the 16-man squad as he reverted back to 4-5-1. Mark Gower and Marcos Painter both passed fitness tests to return to the starting line-up.
Preston were the better side to start with but Bodde scored an absolute screamer of a goal from just inside the opponents half! You won’t see many better as it was a superb powerful shot from around 50 yards.
After a poor start, it gave the Swans a bit of confidence as we started to get forward more often. Preston continued to cause problems for us though and Mellor in particular was their dangerman.
Swansea’s back four had plenty of work to do in the second half to maintain our lead. With around 10 minutes to go, Bodde picked out Gomez in the box, who was shoved to the ground as the hosts gifted us a second goal to put the game beyond doubt. The Spaniard stepped up to convert the spot-kick.
It was a vital win for us as another loss would have seen us drop further down the Championship table. Our opponents at home next Saturday, Wolves, ended their unbeaten start to the season, losing 3-0 to Reading as they continue their impressive goalscoring form.
