Swansea City moved back up to 8th place in the Premier League after winning at Aston Villa, while Stoke City lost 2-1 at home to Crystal Palace to slip back down to 9th.

There was controversy yet again involving referees, as the match official at the Etihad Stadium got the West Brom defenders mixed up when Dawson fouled former Swan Wilfried Bony when in on goal.

Bony opened the scoring for Manchester City against 10-man West Brom, before Fernando and Silva also got on the scoresheet to give the title holders a much needed comfortable home win against the Baggies.

Arsenal kept up their bid for a top 4 place with a 2-1 win at Newcastle United, while Spurs were lucky to come out of a 7-goal thriller against Leicester City as winners. Foxes manager Nigel Pearson hit out at referee Mike Dean’s ‘arrogance’ as he looked to get an explanation from him for awarding Spurs a penalty, which Harry Kane converted as he claimed the match ball with a hatrick.

Southampton enjoyed a rather routine 2-0 home victory against Burnley – who stay in 18th, a point adrift of Sunderland who lost 1-0 at West Ham United in Dick Advocaat’s first game in charge following Gus Poyet’s sacking this week.

The Saints aren’t giving up on a top 4 place, as they currently trail Manchester United by 3 points – who travel to Liverpool on Sunday in a massive top-4 match.
