Under fire Saints boss Jan Poortvliet has admitted that Ferrie Bodde is exactly the type of player Southampton crave.
Speaking after his side’s 3-0 loss at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday the Dutchman heaped praise on his fellow compatriot even going so far as declaring he could don the famous orange shirt of the Dutch national side but has warned Bodde in order to impress Oranje head coach Bert van Marwijk the midfielder must be playing in the Premier league.
Looking back at his sides performance against Roberto Martinez’s side the 53 year old manager conceded that his side were outfought and did not deserve to come away with anything from the game . It leaves the St Mary’s club firmly in the relegation mix and with financial instability at an all time high there could be troublesome times ahead for Southampton.

| ”I know Ferrie from The Hague.That’s the sort of player we need. Not Ferrie because he is here, but we need players who are leaders on the pitch.A player like Ferrie would be ideal for us ? someone who knows when to kick, when to play, when to play hard and when to shoot.I heard stories about other teams looking at him in the summer and now I can see why. You never know, he could play for Holland ? but not in the Championship. He would have to be playing in the Premier League.’ The Duchman on Southampton’s 3-0 loss to Swansea City: “Two teams wanted to play and the tempo was good so I think it was enjoyable for the people to watch.But for me it’s not enjoyable. We played reasonable football but we were never dangerous and that’s a big disappointment.We didn’t have enough power to create things and Swansea deserved the win because they had more presence in the box.It’s hard to keep the confidence up.We have only equalised once this season when we’ve gone a goal down and there’s not enough belief.People have said we play nice football often and I agree with them.We have some good young players, but winning games is the most important thing.’ |
Meanwhile Marcos Painter will find out today if he is to face a six month spell out of the game after sustaining cruciate ligament damage to his right knee, following Saturday’s 3-0 win over Southampton
