Swansea City have been slightly rocked with the news that striker Gorka Pintado requires a operation in the New Year to remove a hernia.
The Spaniard has had the problem for some time now, and as a result he is unable to play for longer than an hour. This explains his lack of regular first team action since his Summer move from Grenada CF.
Roberto Martinez explained the situation and he told BBC Sport:
|‘He needs an operation, it’s just a matter of time when, it’ll probably be in January,’|
‘He isn’t able to play for over an hour, we need to manage him correctly.
‘Gorka needs the op now because has been suffering. He has working hard for the team but he hasn’t been able to challenge himself for 90 minutes.
‘When Gorka does eventually go in for surgery is dependant on availability and results because he will miss a few games, we just want to minimise how many.
‘I’m delighted with the way Gorka has approached the situation and we’ll get him in as soon as we can.
‘But over the congested Christmas period is when this squad will be extremely tested, but it will make us stronger as a squad.’
