Norwich City fans’ reaction – “Swansea were excellent”, “They never looked like scoring”

|

Norwich City fans were complimentary of Swansea City’s performance at Carrow Road on Friday night as their promotion push continued with a narrow 1-0 win.

Swansea had control of the first half but Norwich found an opening nine minutes into the second half as Buendia fired home the winner from just inside the penalty box.

Without striker Oli McBurnie available, Potter’s side missed a striker’s presence through the middle and as Norwich did too, they struggled to create any clear cut chances on goal.

As one Norwich fan in particular said on their forum, it was a good performance from the Swans but without a cutting edge up front:

“While Swansea played as well as us, I didn’t ever think they looked like scoring. Krul was never at full stretch. And I was convinced the goal would come for us as second half we were getting Hernandez one on one giving Buendia more space.”

Dan James also received plenty of praise from Norwich fans after the game on their forum:

“Below par performance from us but I thought that the Swansea number 20 (James?) was outstanding.”

“His acceleration was as frightening as his pace. Standing to full tilt in a blink.”

“James might have looked fast but he delivered next to no end product. Pace isn’t everything. We rode our luck at times tonight though. “

There were even bold calls that Swansea City looked capable of becoming the “Norwich of 2019/20” – unfortunately we can’t see that happening under our current owners with more players set to leave in the Summer.

“We was lucky today and if Swansea was with Olson ,Lerroy Fer and McBurnie who knows…”

“Swansea will be the Norwich of 2019-20 season.”

“Just missing that cutting edge but I fancy them next season.”

A common theme amongst Norwich fans’ reaction on the game though was our lack of threat up top:

“This thing about riding our luck – we certainly weren’t at our best, particularly in the first half, but they rarely looked like scoring and we created the better chances – if only managing one shot on target. Once it was 1-0 I thought there was only one likely outcome.”

“Swansea reminded me of us last season, a lot of possession but little end product.”

“Swansea were brilliant. Particularly first half. Our pressing couldn’t get near them at times especially when playing out from the back.”

“Having said that, I can’t recall them creating anything other than a few long shots. 2nd half they only looked like scoring from free kicks and corners.”

“A good performance against an impressive Swansea. They were a bit like us last season, lots of ball retention without looking a massive threat up front, resorting to hopeful shots from distance mostly.”

“I thought Dyer had a good game for them and Routledge, both getting on a bit now, presumably not able to manage the full 90 mins. Not sure they’re worth £40K a week though.”

The potential is there for all to see, but we just lacked that cutting edge at leaders Norwich
