Nolan: I Don’t Think Swansea Deserved To Be 8-1

Notts County boss Kevin Nolan didn’t think that Swansea City deserved to have won by such a high margin, as we romped to a stunning 8-1 victory at the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday night.

After a rather quiet start, we kicked into life and the floodgates opened from 18 minutes when Abraham opened the scoring with his first goal since October. It was good work down the right from Narsingh, and the on-loan striker showed his full appreciation to the Dutchman for ending his long goalless spell. He pulled a cross back from the by-line and Abraham rushed into the box to tap the ball home.

Two minutes later and we were 2-0 up, with Abraham turning provider with a great through ball for Dyer to run on to before a confident finish past the oncoming goalkeeper.

Dyer got a second on the half-hour mark before the visitors got a quick goal back. They would have been disappointed to have failed to hold on for 3-1 at the break, as Abraham got another late in first-half injury time.

The likes of Naughton, Routledge and Carroll added to Notts County’s misery before under-23s midfielder Dan James came on to make it eight with eight minutes to play.

Notts County boss Kevin Nolan gave his thoughts afterwards, and he didn’t feel that the Swans deserved to win by eight goals to one. I can’t see his point of view here. We were in complete control throughout and showed some Premier League quality finishing, 8 goals from 14 shots on target reflects that. I’m not sure what he was expecting really? It could have been far worse, it could have been double figures. We took things easy during the 17 minutes between the 7th and 8th goals. We treated it like a training session but we really could have got 2 or 3 more.

“I don`t think they deserved to be 8-1, but it is one of those games where their finishing was Premier League standard. If you give them opportunities they are going to punish us, of 14 shots on target and eight have gone in.

“We need to concentrate on what is important, which is the league. We need to take this hit and keep smiling.

“Coming to a Premier League team you need to hope some of their players take it easy and your players are on top form and that gulf in class comes closer, but some of our players maybe froze and did not react to the same standard as the rest of the season.

“We could have scored three or four, but Swansea were fantastic and did a professional job.”
