The BBC have decided to turn Robbie Savage’s comments about Swansea City captain Ashley Williams into a potential future transfers news story, as the football pundit believes he could and should be playing for a top 6 club.

The former Welsh international, now annoying viewers with his commentating, says he would sign Ashley Williams if he was at a top six club.

For some reason, Savage has come to the conclusion that he will be surprised if Swansea City’s skipper will still be at the club next season:

‘I think Ashley Williams is a leader, he’s good on the ball, defends the near post very well and wins headers,’

‘I’ll be surprised if he’s there next year. Do I think he’ll be there next season? If I was a top club I would buy him.’

There was speculation about Williams’ future before he signed a new long-term contract at the Liberty Stadium. We all wondered if he’d put pen to paper as talks of a new deal seemed to take far too long, and soon the rumours started that he was waiting for a potential move to either Arsenal or Liverpool.

Aged 30, it would be a big shock if a top 6 side came in for him now. And it should be mentioned that at the time of writing, he’s currently at a top 8 side! Savage talks as if he’s currently at a club struggling near the foot of the Premier League!

If he was going to play for a club like Arsenal or Liverpool then surely it would have happened by now.

You could argue that he’s shown the consistency and quality in his 4 seasons in the Premier League to earn a move to a bigger club and play in Europe, but you still have to wonder why a bigger club has never made a significant bid to sign him.

Fortunately for us, no such bid has ever come in, and is likely never going to!
