Swansea City captain Garry Monk insists we must put what happened in the Summer behind us and move on.

The defender told Wales Online how the previous management team did a fantastic job to get us up this far in the Football League but we must move on into a new era under Paulo Sousa. And Garry Monk believes we are starting to show that we have. Some fans had their doubts about the new man in charge early on in the season but he’s done brilliantly to get us up to 11th in the table after the problems he’s had to deal with since joining the club.

It was devastating to see Martinez leave for Wigan Athletic, taking with him his backroom staff and his top two goalscorers – Jason Scotland and Jordi Gomez, but after a slow start, we don’t seem to be suffering at all as a result. We’re even a point better off than this time last year.

Monk said:

‘We are trying to put what happened in the summer behind us,’

‘The people who left did a great job for us while they were here and we thank them for everything, but the club moves on and we have to move on as players.

‘I think we are starting to show that we have done that.

‘I said in pre-season that it would take time, but we always believed in ourselves. We lost two key players in the summer, but the majority of players from last season are still here and we have also added to that.

‘The new faces are settling in now — Cedric (van der Gun) was outstanding against Scunthorpe — and I think you can see the confidence growing.

‘We are heading in the right direction.’

The captain also said that there’s more to come from Swansea City:

‘I still think there is more to come for us,’

‘Things are ticking along nicely for us, but we have to keep the momentum going.

‘Our first target is to make sure we stay in contention until Christmas and then we can go on from there.’
